UPDATE: Deadline has confirmed that Mark Ruffalo is indeed in talks to join Thor in Thor: Ragnarok, teaming up the two heroes for what some are reporting is Marvel’s darkest script yet. Additional rumors claim the third Thor movie — due out in November of 2017 — will also introduce multiple female characters, too, including Valkyrie and her nemesis, The Enchantress. Will it all lead to an eventual Planet Hulk movie? Probably. More on that below.

Original story below…

Is Thor about to get a little help from his green buddy in the next Thor movie, due out on November 3, 2017? That’s the big superhero rumor today, courtesy of JoBlo, who claim Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk will join Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Jaimie Alexander in Thor: Ragnarok, extending this new trend of including other heroes in movies that were traditionally solo films.

We’re seeing a whole lot of that in next year’s Captain America: Civil War, which includes numerous heroes (Black Widow, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, to name a few) alongside Chris Evans’ Captain America. So it makes sense to see someone like the Hulk — who was left out of the already packed Civil War — pop up in the next Thor film, which could probably use the additional hero power to help inject a little more pizazz into one of Marvel’s weaker franchises.

So why would it make sense for Hulk to join Thor? Well the most obvious answer is to set up a Planet Hulk movie, rumored to be in the works for years now, and gaining even more traction following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Last week Marvel also released an updated release-date calendar, including an Ant-Man sequel, titled Ant-Man and the Wasp, along with some movies they haven’t revealed yet.

Is one of those Planet Hulk?

Maybe… maybe not. Keep in mind that before any sort of Planet Hulk movie can happen they need to finish out this Avengers trilogy with a massive two-parter that will surely include Hulk in a major way. So if Hulk’s appearance in Thor: Ragnarok is supposed to lead directly to a Planet Hulk storyline, then chances are that storyline would need to be a part of Avengers: Infinity War, of which part 1 arrives May 4, 2018, a few months after Black Panther (Feb. 16, 2018).

Regardless, we like the addition of Mark Ruffalo in a Hulk movie. Not only does it add a new unfamiliar element to the Thor movieverse, but it also puts Hulk in a spot we’ve never seen him in. And heck yeah we wanna see Hulk fight some of those crazy other-realm monsters that will surely show up to do damage in Thor: Ragnarok.

Plus this gives Loki a chance to exact revenge for this embarrassing little moment, circa the first Avengers movie.

What do you think about Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok? Good move? Bad one? Sound off!
