M. Night Shyamalan: James McAvoy is in talks to star in the next movie from director M. Night Shyamalan. The untitled project is set to begin filming in November; McAvoy would replace Joaquin Phoenix, who was previously touted for the lead role. Little is known about the movie, except that it will be “on the lower end of the budget scale.” [Deadline]

 

Taiki Waititi

Thor: Ragnarok: Taiki Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) is in negotiations to direct Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment in the superhero series. Chris Hemsworth is set to return as the Norse god in the movie, which is scheduled for release on July 28, 2017. Born in New Zealand, Waititi is known for his comedic work on television (Flight of the Conchords) and in movies (Eagle vs. Shark, Boy). [Heat Vision]

 

Transformers: Age of Extinction

Transformers: We heard recently that Transformers 5 will be written by Akiva Goldsman (The Divergent Series: Insurgent) and that an animated spinoff is also on its way, along with two other sequel possibilities. Now comes word from Hasbro Studios president Stephen J. Davis that the next 10 years of the series have been plotted out, and at least four more live-action movies are planned, not just three. Bare

Bare Trailer: Dianna Agron (TV’s Glee) stars in Bare, an independent drama heading for release in theaters on October 30. The film follows a young woman from a small town in Nevada who becomes romantically involved with a drifter (Paz de la Huerta) and then is drawn into a dark life of drugs and stripping. [Movieclips]
